Andrew Satterfield

Founder · Program DirectorLead Instructor — Grades 4–6

Andrew’s own homeschooling shaped his belief in independence, responsibility, and trust. At Monarch, he sequences curriculum and uses formative assessment and progress feedback to support students’ learning and independent-work habits. He pairs individual coaching with clear expectations, helping students discover their grit while fueling curiosity through questions and exploration. His work also includes program administration and parent communication, connecting classroom learning with support at home.

Gabrielle Satterfield

Founder · Program DirectorLead Instructor — Grades 1–4

Gabrielle leads younger-elementary instruction and Read, Write, Move, where students practice phonics, spelling, reading, handwriting, and physical education.

Gabrielle’s instructional emphasis includes helping younger students strengthen foundational skills, develop stamina for meaningful academic work, follow increasingly complex directions, and grow in responsibility and independence.

Alongside her current instructional work, Gabrielle participates in the continued development of Monarch’s programs and may lead additional homeschool-support offerings as the organization grows and family needs develop.

The meaning of Monarch

Our name.
A shared journey.

A symbolic illustration of four butterfly generations carrying a journey forward.

A journey carried forward across generations.

Every family brings its own character, values, and strengths. Monarch works alongside parents to steward those qualities in academic life.

Andrew and Gabrielle chose the Monarch identity to reflect a view of education that extends beyond a single lesson, semester, or generation.

Our name draws on the monarch butterfly’s migration. The eastern monarch’s spring and summer journey north can take up to four generations, with each generation continuing the path. That shared journey is a picture of the care, guidance, and character families carry forward.

Our tagline, Generational Resources, reflects this commitment: helping families carry their character and strengths forward while giving students an academic roadmap.

The royalty in every student

Every student matters.

Monarch also carries the idea of royalty. We want students to recognize their inherent worth, the character and strengths they bring, and their responsibility to grow into thoughtful, self-governing people.

05 / Educational approach

“More is caught
than taught.”

Andrew and Gabrielle jointly developed and share Monarch’s educational philosophy. Parents guide the journey. Monarch supports the academic work alongside them.

A / BUILD THE FOUNDATION

The steady work of learning.

Terminology, repetition, reading, writing, procedures, practice, and safety give students a foundation to build on. Like concrete being poured and allowed to cure, this work takes time.

B / MAKE THE CONNECTION

The moment it becomes tangible.

Experiments, demonstrations, projects, discussion, debate, and discovery create opportunities for “eureka” moments. Experience gives students a reason to return to the foundational work.

Monarch helps families give students a roadmap for learning: concepts to understand, skills to practice, questions to ask, and habits that support independent work. These become mental reference points for deeper study later.

Build work stamina. Grow independence. We value helping students increase their stamina for sustained academic work and their ability to work independently. Consistent practice and clear expectations encourage students to stay with a task, work through challenges, and take increasing ownership of their learning.

06 / Correspondence-school services

Supporting Alaska
homeschool families.

Monarch has worked with families participating in Alaska correspondence-school programs, including:

  • Family Partnership Charter School
  • IDEA Homeschool
  • Frontier Charter School

These names identify programs in which families participate. They do not indicate school endorsement, sponsorship, affiliation, certification, or recommendation of Monarch.

Role within correspondence programs. When Monarch services are used as part of an Alaska correspondence-school program, Monarch provides supplemental academic instruction and educational support consistent with the student's approved learning plan. The correspondence program and its certificated teacher retain the oversight and official academic-evaluation responsibilities assigned to them under Alaska law and program policy.

Publicly funded services. Services and materials billed through public correspondence-school allotments are limited to secular educational instruction and materials eligible under the student's approved learning plan and applicable program requirements.
